Carbon Unbound East Coast 2025

New York, May 20–21, 2025
CarbonRun had the opportunity to participate in Carbon Unbound East Coast—a gathering of some of the most forward-thinking voices in carbon removal. Represented by our CEO and Co-Founder, Luke Connell, and Director of Business Development, Andy Lam, we connected with global peers, discussed key trends in verification and scalability, and reinforced why nature-based solutions belong at the center of climate action.
One of the highlights was Luke’s appearance on the mainstage panel, “Communities, the Backbone of Equitable CDR.” Moderated by Carbon180’s Ugbaad Kosar, the session explored the risks of neglecting equity in carbon removal—and the necessity of integrating community engagement early and consistently. Luke shared how CarbonRun’s model, grounded in collaboration with local communities, is shaping a more just approach to carbon removal in Atlantic Canada.
Andy joined a panel at Isometric’s dMRV event. The conversation focused on the role of technology across the entire CDR lifecycle—from project operations to validation, verification, and credit issuance. Andy shared how we’re using the Mangrove platform to streamline data collection, ensure rigorous accounting, and improve transparency—critical steps when issuing verified carbon removal credits.
Carbon Unbound East Coast also gave us the chance to reconnect with partners, meet new collaborators, and celebrate the growing visibility of River Alkalinity Enhancement (RAE). From our roots in rural Nova Scotia to this global stage, it’s energizing to see river-based solutions included in the broader climate dialogue—not just for their carbon impact, but for their co-benefits: freshwater restoration, ocean protection, and community resilience.
The future of carbon removal will be collective, diverse, and driven by a commitment to do things right. Thank you to the Carbon Unbound team for an outstanding and well-curated event. We’re already looking forward to the next one, in Europe, where our Founder and CSO/COO, Shannon Sterling, has joined the Advisory Board.
